Re: Dermatillomania

Those cuticles..and hands...fucking ow!

I think I have this honestly..started taking lithium this past year (yeh, yeh, yeh..bi-polar...don't tag me emo-scene-kid...lol), causes breakouts..like pimples and whatnot. Stand there at the mirror picking..and then rippng skin off of zits/dead skin etc with tweezers..then the next day..same deal..but with the scabs and "Debriding" the dead skin around the scabs..

Everyday..that is my routine before I can go anywhere..rip all the dead crap off..and wash my face with 91% rubbing alcohol..

Don't know how I missed the last part of your post. I'm sorry to hear that, minty

Doesn't your skin dry out terribly?

Re: Dermatillomania

I see meth heads do this all the time. Not that these are all meth addicts. I wonder if they have done any research on the cause/comparison of the two, meth and dermatillomania.

If I already posted this on this post, ignore it! I did. I checked ;)

Meth screws with your nerves or the nerve endings, among many other things.

If you stay awake too long, whether or not you use drugs and your body wants to rest, but, your mind wants to stay awake, you can hallucinate or imagine things.

My brother used to swear bugs were crawling all over him and he picked his legs terribly!

He'd stand in the bed of his old car with a bandana like a pirate telling the neighbors, "Something big is going down!"

If it went down, I missed it.

Re: Dermatillomania

the problem is that not only am I allergic to one of the most common ingredients in soap, but I am also allergic to the chemical that they use as an alternative for sensitive skin.

Re: Dermatillomania

Check out the background of a lot of great comedians.
i.e. Richard Pryor...that man had some serious demons, poor guy:
On June 9, 1980, during the making of the film Bustin' Loose, Richard Pryor set himself on fire after freebasing cocaine and drinking 151-proof rum. While on fire, he ran down Parthenia Street from his Northridge, California home, until being subdued by police. He was taken to the hospital, where he was treated for burns covering more than half of his body. Pryor spent six weeks in recovery at the Grossman Burn Center at Sherman Oaks Hospital. His daughter, Rain Pryor, stated that Pryor poured high-proof rum over his body and set himself on fire in a bout of drug-induced psychosis
Fucking Ouch!

Did you see his routine when he returned after that near death experience?

He told the audience he heard all the jokes, lit a match and moved it a couple of feet away from him and asked, "What's this? Richard Pryor!"

Louie Anderson had an alcoholic, abusive father. Don't know about his mother.

That sucks!

Although I cannot use lavender myself because I hate the smell, have you tried Aveeno baby products?

They make a product you can use on your hair and skin.

I cannot use rosemary either because it's an allergen to those of us allergic to ragweed. A woman at a Clinique counter told me that years ago.

Re: Dermatillomania

Wow, I tend to pick at the skin around my thumbnails but had no idea that this was a disorder. Thanks for posting.

Re: Dermatillomania

I read that both Trichotillomania and Dermatillomania have the same root cause as Tourette's syndrome. They're all the same disorder, just different manifestations.
