Re: Dermatillomania
I legitimately have this and its really annoying. I have keratosis pilaris, which causes these little bumps on my skin, which are irritated more since I'm allergic to like all soap, and I cant leave them alone, my skin looks a lot like the first pic. I'm currently working on stopping but it isnt like just stopping a bad habit, its crazy. welp! just thought id share lol

Re: Dermatillomania
That sucks. Thanks for sharing though! I bet it is a really hard habit to break. I know just biting my nails and the skin around my fingers was a terribly hard habit to break so I can only imagine. Good luck! |

Re: Dermatillomania
The intestines, I remember. I think a guy had a dog chew off his skin, but, I don't recall if it was his face. You may be right. Meth users are always picking and feel imaginery bugs, but, it's just the nerve endings going crazy. My youngest brother was always picking things that weren't there and was paranoid. He'd stand in the bed of his car in a pirate bandana telling neighbors, "Something big is going down!" It never did go down whatever it was. |

Re: Dermatillomania
My sister did this to her legs one time when she was all fucked up on meth. She took a pair of tweezers to her legs to get out the ingrown hairs. Well, it ended up being almost ever hair follicle on her leg. It got pretty infected. I wish I had known of this site then... |

Re: Dermatillomania
I do this on my back. When I'm trying to sleep i run my hands accross my back and stop at the zits and bumps and pick at them. It's nowhere near as bad as those pictures, though, it doesn't hurt and I almost never draw blood. |

Re: Dermatillomania
I'm currently stuck in this hell. My trich started after I was raped and I started pulling out my pubic hair, it then progressed to skin picking. Truth, my arms, chest, thighs and buttocks look like the last pic #5. You literally can not stop yourself and you go into a trance. Hours will pass and I won't snap out of it until there's blood everywhere. The sickest fucking thing is that I have shown multiple doctors and have been trying to get appropriate psychiatric care for a year and a fucking half. The valley I lived in has such a high meth (NOT ME HELL NO!) and drug abuse problem, that I am automatically treated as a meth head until drug tests prove I'm telling the truth, and even then doctor's refuse to prescribe medications because they feel a psychiatrist needs to manage this matter. But I CAN'T GET INTO a fucking psychiatrist. I wear long sleeves and pants all the time, I rarely go out in public, and I burn and itch all the time. It feels like I'm being stung by wasps all over my body, probably because my picking is so exstensive it is affecting the nerves in my skin. I also take have to take antibiotics quite often to ward off infections, which is really not good for your immune system. A few days ago I reached a point where I was feeling suicidal over this and my chronic pain/health issues so I went to the ER for help. They did nothing, just had me talk to a counselor for 20 minutes after a 6 1/2 hour wait and sent me home. I'm at my wits end, personally |

Re: Dermatillomania
I am sorry to hear about your situation and past issues Thank you for sharing. That quote is very true. Check out the background of a lot of great comedians. I am not making light of your situation, but, my brother used to go to the ER or a Mental Health facility and say he was suicidal. If you want to chat privately, please contact me. |

Re: Dermatillomania
I pick healing wounds and bug bites sometimes. They itch and I scratch until I draw blood. It stops the itching. My upper back was diagnosed as cellulitis, needed antibiotics and I have hydrocortisone valerate for my back now, although it was for my leg. My family doctor uses, "cellulitis," to diagnose anything he has no real name for. One nurse even called it shingles, which it wasn't. No pain until I pick! Just itchy! A dermatologist once told me it was from hot water in the shower. I doubt I hit the exact same spot every time I shower or test the water! |
