Re: The Boy with a Maggot Infection Inside of His Head

That's really disturbing but it's also pretty damn cool as an aspiring forensic entomologist to see that!! that cave in looks like the maggots rotating. They rotate constantly because their bodies create so much heat as a mass; they're constantly eating and moving to cool off. That's why on so many corpses they appear to be "moving", because they are. They rotate, so the maggots on the surface can eat... and the maggots below the top layer can cool off and take a break from nomming. Awesome!!

Re: The Boy with a Maggot Infection Inside of His Head

First I want to thank Sarah for the cool info! I didn't know that about them. There was a time I don't think I could've gotten through a video like this, but I am now a forensic psych maj in my senior year (its only taken me about 15 years lol) and I remember watching a documentary on medical maggots years ago and being appreciative of what they can do. Maggots were applied to open wounds of patients to fend off infection or eat any possible existing infection. It is quite possible these little guys saved the kid's life because they do not eat live flesh, only dead.
