I did the same a few years back.

Caught the deep fryer pan as it fell off the cooker.
Stupid really but was instant reaction as my daughter was stood behind me and would have splashed her.

Slept for 2 nights with hand in a bucket of cold water next to bed, kept it wrapped for 2 weeks and I have no scarring at all.

Work place doesn't cover it? Anything that happens at work is a work accident in my country and wouldn't cost me a dime. Some years back I poured a bucket of scalding water on my foot and had daily visits to a private hospital for about a month. Got paid too.
