Bitten by a Belgian Malinois

In January my husband's retired K-9 partner bit me. Compared to some stuff on here this is not that bad but it did break three fingers and put me in 6 months of occupational therapy. Our dog, a Belgian Malinois, has a 1,400 pounds per square inch of bite pressure. They are known for taking grown men down. I just tried to get a treat for him that rolled under the oven that he thought I was stealing from him. These pictures are of the initial bite and swelling from infection to the devices I had to wear to straighten my fingers. I still cannot make a tight fist or hold something in it for an extended period.

It's interesting to see personal stuff on here. At least your fingernails are cute! I'm sorry that happened to you. Is that white thing a cast of some kind? It looks like guitar tuning pegs. Will the dog still stay with you guys...?

Re: Bitten by a Belgian Malinois

Thanks. It is a splint that I had to turn to make my fingers ho straight or bend. I couldn't do either. It was extremely painful. We still have him. He was trained to attack and it sometimes screws them up. I had to learn Dutch commands to get him to come, stay, etc. I forget them when he was biting.

Re: Bitten by a Belgian Malinois

Hope you get better soon but theres no way I would have a pet that could take down a grown man, to be honest. I would be wary to say the least; its like having a grizzly bear as a pet.

They are gorgeous looking dogs though; they look very wolf-like.

Wow, that's intense. I hope you continue to recover.

I just wanted to say that I think it's really great that you kept the dog, and that you understood all the training and conditioning the dog had had and the impact that it must have had on him. I think a lot of dog owners would have been quick to get rid of the dog. Good on you, I hope he doesn't bite you or anyone again though!

Don't have any dogs over 45lbs and guard your throat from the ones smaller than that. They're all capable of causing great damage.

I wouldn't have a dog like the op's loose in my house as a pet. It should be with and controlled by the officer at all times, or locked up. Especially since the op was incapable of commanding the dog, when she panicked and forgot the words. That's a very dangerous situation.
