Re: Birthing Face First
Why....WHY did I click this link? I knew I would regret it...my god. I'd considered breech birth, you know, feet first, but...face first in that position? Painful and scary both for mom and baby! I'm terrified of simple tearing...I'm very small down there...this has me petrified. I suppose an epidural would only help so much? |

Re: Birthing Face First
my eldest daughter was born in that position. She was in the occiput posterior position, the docs tried to turn her but she kept moving back. It was the most painful pregnancy I had as her spine was against mine. When she was finally born after a week of "slow labour" and in total 2 weeks overdue, she weighed 9lb 4ox and was 24inches long! Needless to say I was very ill afterwards, I haemorraged when as the plancenta came out ( the doc was patient enough to wait for me to expel it myself and thought it was a good idea to give me a drug to help.....at the same time as he did the injection, my body also pushed it out....I loss an awful lot of blood and was then given multiple transfusions)........!!!!

Re: Birthing Face First
I am guess you are expecting.. so.. Few words (or a lot) here. You'll be fine. Get the epidural. it will still hurt afterwards, and you'll still have contractions etc.. I know..a guy telling you you'll be fine through childbirth.. The irony huh? Our last child we had, who is now almost 17 months old (Already?!).. My girlfriend went to the hospital, woke up and felt sick all day, and was almost full term. (By "almost", I mean it was like 3 days from her due date..) Thought it was time.. We went in, up to the maternity ward/fourth floor. she was in the room for like 3 hours, sent us home, made it to first floor, she had to use the bathroom, 30 minutes in there, I'm at the door making sure she is ok the whole time, finally make it out to the car, she goes to get in...tells her mother and I she cannot sit or stand.. Back In we went..to the E.R. , they rushed us back up to the 4th floor/maternity ward, same room we were in. They laid her down in the bed, all of the nurses left to find the doctor. (her gynecologist had already left.) Her Mother had to run out for a nurse., nurse had to deliver the baby, NO time for ANY drugs or I.V. or anything.. Seen my Daughter's head come out.. Probably the most awesome thing I have witnessed in my life. From how I witnessed it...after all of the screaming and pain and insanity going on...once they handed our baby to her..it seemed as if it all disappeared. Even went silent for me for a bit.. Then after they take Baby off to get all of the testing and fully cleaned and clothed etc. it all pretty much came back. They had me help her/tend to her, which was kind of cool, unexpected. but cool. She bled a LOT... was a lot of blood clots for the next few days..was pretty gross even by my standards.. Every time the nurse or doctor came in they would firmly press on her stomach to help the clots out. Looked like they were performing failed CPR... My best advice to you...if you haven't already done so. go to child birthing classes. we learned so much there...they teach a LOT of stuff I wouldn't had even ever heard of or known of. (I have a child from an ex, and she has 2 kids from her ex...even she was amazed at what we learned..) Learned things from how to breastfeed/use breast pumps to meconium and other weird stuff.. (Meconium is the babies poop before and the first day or two after they are delivered..it is black and tar like..and yeh, the baby can poop in the amniotic sac/during childbirth. and is bad for the baby if it gets in her lungs. they have to clean her airway out more extensively and give antibiotics etc.) I even learned child CPR there.. W Which unfortunately I had to use once when My daughter first started solid foods. BUT was better to know and use than not and wait for an ambulance etc... Overall..it prepares you tremendously, even for childbirth itself. Wish ya' the best. |
