Birth Defects: Cyclopia, Conjoined Twins and Neu-Laxova Syndrome
Birth defects encompass several different congenital conditions, including cyclopia, conjoined twins and Neu-Laxova syndrome. Cyclopia is the most severe form of holoprosencephaly, in which the brain fails to divide. It involves one central eye and may include a tubular nose, called a proboscis, above it. Most severe cases of holoprosencephaly result in death before or soon after birth. Conjoined twins occur in about 1.47 per 100,000 births. Neu-Laxova syndrome is a rare, lethal condition inherited in an autosomal recessive pattern. Its features include severe growth restriction, craniofacial abnormalities, swelling, joint contractures and ichthyosis. DNA misprints often caused by pollution,radiation or parents bad habits ( drugs -any sort- ) Sad really. |
