Re: Battling My Acne Part 3

i think you look fine! i know how you feel, though. i have really oily skin and make-up is my best friend. what works best for me is just regular ivory soap (i get mine at cvs but you could definitely find it somewhere else for a better price). generally that's ALL i use, but if a pimple or two pops up i use the ivory soap (it dries my oily face up lol), pro-activ step #1 (deep cleanser in the shower), and then step #2 (after shower, like astringent/toner). in that order. i don't use the 3rd step in proactiv because it makes my face more oily.

i'm sorry if that seems long-winded but it may work for you, too! or not. it's worth a try, though. i wish you the best of luck! :)

Re: Battling My Acne Part 3

And everyone gets the big boil on the butt from time to time.
No boil for me. Evar.

Am I being ripped off somehow?

Re: Battling My Acne Part 3

Sorry, haven't read through all the posts so this may have already been suggested or covered, but have you had your hormone levels checked? If they are out of whack, topical treatments will only slightly help, or not at all.

If your free androgens are too high, you will need something like birth control pills, spironolactone, or a combination of both to get the breakouts to stop.

Go have your gyno do some bloodwork, or an endocrinologist.

Good luck. I know what you're going through and adult acne fucking sucks.

Re: Battling My Acne Part 3

I had acne in school (no i wasn't uncool, nerdy or dirty *rolls eyes*) and no matter what i tried it didn't clear up until i was in my late teens so i know how distressing it can be. My doctor put it down to hormone changes and skin type. It eventually cleared up on it's own as i got older.
Combination skin i have, also if you have large facial pores you are more prone to spots as there's a much higher chance of dirt/dust or whatever getting into your face and clogging up the pores.
I would suggest you use bio oil daily, it will help with any scarring you have and it does wonders for the skin. I continue to use it daily even though i don't need to. You only need to massage in a small amount.

I know it's not healthy but sunbeds also help.

Re: Battling My Acne Part 3

woodsetton - didn't we have this conversation before? I never had acne, but, I get red blotches from my meds like Raggedy Ann cheeks.

My nieces swore by Pro-Activ and to cover the red, use a green concealer lightly.

Another member mentioned a slightly darker foundation and I agree with that. No offense, but, it looks like you are wearing a mask. (I have a former friend who did that, too, but, she didn't look like that in person, just in photos.) Your foundation should match your neck and it should be blended unless it is just a touch to cover the green, but, take it to your hairline and down your neck a bit, if you are covering your entire face.

I'm older so I wear very little makeup, just the green concealer and a touch of foundation so the green does not show with a loose powder over it. I do the blush and eyes and lips sometimes if I'm going out and going to be photographed. You can also put a light touch of blush around your face at your hairline so it doesn't look so light and one dimensional.

I also recommend unscented products. You can still wear your blush, eye makeup and lip color, but, go very lightly with the foundation. Your skin needs to breathe.

Your skin will breathe better and I think you will look and feel better.

Also, always remove your makeup at night. Never sleep in it. If you have a few late nights here and there, just wash it off when you wake up for a potty break and I think you'll be fine

There is also a haircolor remover to get the red dye off of your face without removing it from your hair. Try a beauty supply store. I think it is simply called, "Hair Color Remover", and it doesn't smell.
