Battling My Acne
After around 3 years of having hardly any acne, in the last 6 months my face has flared up again. I'm guessing that the anti-biotic I take has stopped being effective and the skin cream I also apply twice daily just isn't enough so will go and see my doctor to get referral to see a private dermatologist (no 6 month wait for an NHS one for me!) But until that all happens, I'm being creative. I don't normally wear a lot of make up but when you have pale skin, a ton of spots and low self-esteem you really have to make the effort. So, below, I'm putting a few before and after pictures, along with what I use in my daily routine to try to keep the spots manageable. I'm not fishing for compliments, I just wanted to show how I'm coping and how I'm adapting. |

Do whatever you want that makes you feel better but you're still pretty.

Re: Battling My Acne
My son had acne really bad. We actually did try Acutane and in his case worked wonders. His self esteem before was bad, after wards he became a different child. He now does more daily skin care then most woman but does what he has to do to feel good about himself. And Eaton is right, you are pretty, but do what you have to do to 'feel' pretty. |

Sweetheart you are ME. There's a history of skin cancer in my family so I stay out of the sun...I'm so white I think the sun's rays just reflect right off me anyway. So when I have a breakout, it's a lot more noticeable. Have you done the whole Proactiv thing?

Re: Battling My Acne
If its out there on the market, I've tried it. I can't take Accutane as the side-effects would put my mental health at risk, though its already fucked up anyway. And for those who said I was pretty, thank you. You've made my day. |

Re: Battling My Acne
On the Accutane question, as it was my son, he didn't have to take the pregnancy test, but every month he had to have his cholesterol checked. We also had to watch how much vitamin A he got in his diet. Accutane is a derivative of vitamin A and it can cause added cranial pressure, causing severe headaches. He only had to do a 6 month rotation on it. But he feels it was worth it. It is not for everyone and I wouldn't recommend it myself, I just know it worked for him. |

Re: Battling My Acne
Honestly, I'm a pretty critical person, especially since I battled with acne and was pretty insecure about any breakouts through highschool and college (you'd think that would make me more sympathetic but I guess I hated myself during those years, mainly due to the skin breakouts lol so I have a strong disdain for acne) but sincerely you're break outs are nothing out of the norm meaning if I saw you out and about it wouldn't really come off as if you had a skin problem and I may not even notice it. You are a beautiful woman like many have said. But I understand we are our own harshest critic and many of us who deal with acne for a prolonged amount of time seek perfect skin and to finally feel as if we have no skin flaws so I would strongly recommend checking out a different methods to battling acne. One thing that helped me immensely was drinking fresh juices that I would make with a juicer. It was a costly investment the juicer was a $300, but you can find a very good one for $150-$300. Further, I took biotin. By drinking 2-3 glasses of different juices a day for about 4-6 weeks, and avoiding foods high in carbs, sugar, etc -- basically ate a very clean simple diet (egg whites, oatmeal, fruit, grilled chicken, spinach salads and the like) I saw a significant change in my acne. I had no break outs at all.... So really look into it! |
