Anencephaly; horrendous, neural tube defect. Usually fatal.

Re: Baby Born Without a Skull.

This blog is the story of a woman who brought her anencephalic child home and kept her alive for a few months. It's a fascinating, if morbid, read.

In many pics the baby looks happier than most babies are.
That blog is heartbreaking, although the baby seems quite happy and content awwwww. So cute. And so sad too We really are blessed having "normal" kids arent we, when you consider all the things that can go wrong

Re: Baby Born Without a Skull.

When our son was born at 23 weeks, one of his neighbours in the NICU was born without half of her skull and brain. Every day I expected (like her parents) to find her gone. Yet she was released shortly after our son was.

Regarding the brain and rewiring....that couldn't be more true. Our son suffered two brain bleeds (IVH) a Grade IV and a Grade III at birth. If an adult had one, they would be dead, no question. And the doctors pushed HARD for months for us to let him go. Because he would be a lot like Terri S. At worst and mildly mentally and physically handicapped.

He is six now, and you would have ZERO idea he has brain damage (his MRI's still show moderate 'holes' in his brain from the blood) he is crazy smart, and has no disabilities at all. Well he has a feeding tube, but this was from a heart surgery fuck up (paralyzed vocal cord). And no this isn't just a moms rave about her kid, he shocks everyone.

That said his outcome is not typical either.

The brain is a very crazy thing, especially in babies.

Re: Baby Born Without a Skull.

The babies simply don't survive beyond infancy. Keeping them alive when they are basically unaware, brain dead shells is ridiculous.

Re: Baby Born Without a Skull.

Yeah its sad but the way we care for the Least of our fellow humans, especially if they are completely innocent, reflects the moral health of a society.

As for health funds out the window, there is plenty of money in the world rampantly spent on the artifacts of glut and greed.

So for a small while, some is used to provide a little warmth and nourishment to a poor little one until the baby passes away. It wont be long so have a little grace and maybe spill some poison elsewhere besides all over this family tragedy.

I'm not concerned about the money, I think it's just cruel. Why make the baby live grossly deformed, kept alive artificially for the sake of spending time with it? Seems selfish to me. Why put it through surgeries and other procedures?

Re: Baby Born Without a Skull.

There is a case of an anecephalic baby living into toddler years but, they are a vegetable. They can't do anything on their own obviously, and just lay there. Not the quality of life I would want for my kids.
