that explains why those of us who have actual BFRB's disorders like excoriation, trichotillomania, & dermatillomania felt like we could relate to some degree, just not fully to that extent. & it's because those wounds are purposeful injuries. she consciously did all of that to herself for the sole purpose of gaining sympathy from other people & without feeling any shame or regret at all because it was intentional. now that sucks, but the way I see it, factitious disorders are disorders that people create for themselves &/or force upon others. because like you said, they're obsessed with attention. & I personallt dont think I will ever be able to feel sorry people like that.

Same... I no longer pick at the hair on my head (at four, my parents noticed the bald spots on my head and were hyper vigilant about it, so I stopped), but I pick at my eyebrows; especially if the hair feels "pokey". If I have a scab, pimple (whatever feels like it shouldn't be there) I will pick at it until I feel satisfied (nowhere near this poor girl).

Can you imagine knowing what you are doing to yourself, seeing yourself waste away, but be so unable to stop that you continue even when you know what you're doing to yourself? It's heartbreaking...

I have Dermatillomania that flares up when I'm very stressed out, and while I've had abscesses and have scarring, it's never been as bad as this. Fucking hell, just awful.

I had trichotillomania when I was a child and it returned when I was stressed out as an adult. Chilling out by smoking weed helped me overcome it. Fortunately now I've managed to stop pulling without weed. I have long hair that I love, and the thought of getting permanent bald spots freaks me out enough to stop when my hand reaches for hairs to pull out.
