Re: Art by Mentally Ill People

lol, so tell me this since you seem to be an expert on this topic, whats the difference between being depressed and having depression apart from being diagnosed with it? how do you qualify or jump a grade from depressed to having "depression"? some people are sad, some more than others, some less than others, some are a little sad during certain periods, some are sad for a bunch of periods...point is who's to say this scale of depression (a spectrum of depression from small scale to large scale) is measurable to where you are officially diagnosed with it. tons of people have been over-diagnosed, especially here in the U.S. so they can get juiced up, so they can fit in a neat category, and so that the docs, pharma companies can get paid handsomely.
The DSM-5, a manual used by psychiatrists (who are also M.D.s) measures the the number and types of symptoms present as well as the level of functioning (or lack thereof). Along with testing for further guidance, the psych.may conduct one to several initerviews. Evaluation and preliminary diagnosis may be made by the treating doctor or by a team if the patient has been hospitalized. The patient may then begin medication, which usually take from 4 days to 2 weeks to build up to therapeutic levels. BY THIS POINT THE POOR SOUL MAY FINALLY FIND SOME RELIEF. Depression is waking up and feeling like someone died and it's like that every single day.

Re: Art by Mentally Ill People

the artworks are a window into their world. to us they are abstract, but to the artist they are probably how they perceive the world. very interesting indeed!

Gee, I'm getting a Picasso vibe from some of these.

I like them. That first one kind of looks like it was inspired by Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.

Art not for the faint hearted or narrow-minded. These would be worth exhibition.
