Breast development may occur in girls aged <3 years, and can then spontaneously regress. This is often seen in girls under the age of 3 years and is caused by maternal oestrogens in the early months. There is fairly static breast development before true puberty eventually occurs at the normal time. It is a benign condition confirmed by:

Absence of any other signs of puberty.
Normal growth with appropriate bone age (ie no growth spurt).
Minimal increase in breast tissue with time (can even decrease).
Appropriate uterine dimensions for age (ultrasound) with normal endometrial echo and no vaginal bleeding.

this. while its not common, newborns will sometimes have breast development (and i've even seen expression of milk) due to being around moms hormones while in utero. no harm, no foul. we tell the parents its completely ok when they come in very worried and to follow up in subsequent well-child exams. it resolves and i've yet to see one come back because they have kept growing.

And girls have been starting their cycles at earlier ages than ever. The average age when I was growing up was around 13-16, now they're starting as young as 8!

When I had my daughter, her breasts were large like this. I asked her pediatrician and she said it's normal for breastfed babies to have swollen breasts because all the mom's hormones are transmitted to the baby. The swelling went down within like 6 weeks

Thank you. I have never been pregnant or given birth.

I know breastfed babies can grow faster than bottle fed babies, so I guess it would make sense now that you said that.
