The American Indians were violent, primitive, backward people. They stole everything they could including hunting grounds, horses, household goods, etc. They were warlike long before the white man showed up. They regularly warred with competing tribes and had no problem with the genocidal elimination of their competitors...if they could accomplish it within their limited means. The only reason they 'supposedly' didn't believe in owning land is that they didn't have mathmatics, a written language and couldn't get it together long enough to develop metalurgy and invent barbed wire. They were most definitely NOT enlightened 'innocent' choir boys. They did as much mischief as their meager primitive technologies allowed. They didn't scalp before simply because they never thought of it. Once they saw scalping, they jumped in with both feet in adopting it as a standard practice. Then they were some scalpin' SOB's. |

'We' didn't teach them anything. They did what they wanted to do. They were too backward to be able to even conceive of fermentation because of their laziness and self-imposed primitiveness. When it was time to Change, Adapt & Advance, they refused to Change, Adapt & Advance. Their refusal to Change, Adapt & Advance was how they chose to suicide out. Life IMPOSES situations on all of us. If you refuse to Change, Adapt & Advance, you made well end up swept aside as were the American Indians. It has never been any other way for any people, anywhere, ever. |

Actually the settlers from the Continent brought about a fairly decent amount of destruction simply by passing on diseases that the Indians (even though I'm part Cherokee I REFUSE to use the word "Native American", for the simple fact that there's no such thing) had no natural immunity to. And there's the Trail of Tears and all that too.... |

And the Europeans had plagues, Ice Age, religious persecution, poor dental care, no health care, no social security, poor food preservation, class suppression and on and on and on. Life brings vicissitudes to e-v-e-r-y-o-n-e. Everyone knows that. It was the American Indians' own refusal to Change, Adapt and Advance that was the cause of their undoing. The time of living a certain way had passed. Everything changes. Like it or not. They refused to accept this and thus refused to Change, Adapt and Advance. They basically resorted to 'holding their breath until they turned blue'. And they ended up with the kind of situation that generally results from that kind of 'strategy'. "I'd rather DIE than change!" Uh,...ok, chief...have it your way. Not that I necessarily blame them if they would rather die than accept an unwanted change. It's just that, it was their own decision. I've had to accept many unwanted changes and came very very close to opting out on several occasions. |
