"i like hurting people." norma bell was acquitted but on 17 dec, mary bell was convicted of the "manslaughter due to diminished resposibility" of the two boys. she was sent to the red bank special unit from feb, 1969- nov 1973. she became masculine in appearanc, causing her mother to say, "jesus christ, what next? youre a murderer, and now youre a lesbian." in september 1977 she absconded from moor court open prison, lost her virginity and was recaptured after 3 days. she wasrelased on may 14, 1980 and unbelievably was given a job in a childrens nursery. you should know; in 2002 bell went to court to ask that her new identity and address be kept secret for life to protect her daughter who was born in 1984. she was granded the "mary bell order" on 21 may 2003. five years earlier, the journalist gitta sereny had paid bell for her co-operation on cries unheard, a book about her life, which led many to believe that she should lose her anonymity. the sum paid to bell is believed to have been around 16 pounds and bell and her 40 year old boyfriend had used the money as a deposit on a small house on the south coast. when the location was discovered the police moved bell and her daughter. |
