i read she was 18 and was missing for a day after going with a friend to play football in some "bad" neighbourhood and she had been arrested before for drug possession. But you never know with these south american news media

Yeah, I have long since stopped trying to consolidate disparate stories for little details. The process can be maddening otherwise. Every single site, even ones that just cut/paste from other news sources, somehow manage to go in and edit one or two little details to change it up. Add to that that my translation skills with Spanish are not great...and made even worse by the fact that this was Honduras, where the dialects are somewhat different from the 'Mexican Spanish' I am more familiar with, and the fact that I did half my translation work from a video broadcast instead of text and therefore and didn't have the luxury of software to back up my translations. Ugh. A mess. The only two languages I actually have formal education in are Japanese and Classical Latin-neither of which have proven to be useful for sorting out the minutiae in Notas Rojas stories.

Anyway, thanks for your input on the subject. All of my sources said 17 and not 18, but I adjudicated conflict in her drug history as I saw fit when confronted with disparity. Never heard about the football game at all.

I figure only half the people who click on the thread even bother to read the stories I type up, but I still feel like actually forming the incident into a narrative is more compelling than just doing a cut/paste from Google Translator. The consequence to that, though, is that I sometimes make editorial calls in the translation that may inaccurately represent smaller facts of the case.
