I used the David Reimer case as an example of gender identity being innate, not something that can be pushed onto a person. They know inside who and what they are, as that boy clearly did, despite everything he was being told and forced to accept.

I was simply putting a different perspective on the argument that people with gender identity issues are simply mentally ill. There are biological reasons (ie brain differences) behind the way they are. It’s not something that can necessarily be cured by forcing them to “accept and love” who they are. No one could do that to David Reimer because he knew instinctively something felt wrong.

The same can be said with mental illnesses though. There have been differences noted in schizophrenic patients for example? I have not read anything that concludes a specific difference for transgenders. If you have any articles to the contrary i would be interested in reading them..

I don’t think anyone really knows for sure just yet. It just reminds me of the way homosexuality was viewed as a mental illness too once.
