There are, of course, no foolproof visual identifiers. Some folks go by the stereotypical masculine "butch" look (e.g. short cropped hair, "masculine" attire, etc.) but these are far from sure signs, just bases for making guesses. Same thing with male homosexuals. Some fit the classical stereotypes, but many others do not.
