Two bodies were discovered this morning in the Finca Lorena area of Escuintla, Guatemala.

It was initially thought to be a double suicide, as the young woman was hanging from a tree and the man had been shot in the face with a shotgun. But when no shotgun was recovered at the scene, police reported that it was being investigated as a double homicide.

The man has been identified as a truck salesman. He allegedly showed signs of beating on his body, but his cause of death was shotgun wounds.

The young woman hanging nearby him had no signs of injury. No forensic work has been conducted outside of the scene yet, but police did inform the media that the woman was most likely killed by hanging, rather than being murdered and her dead body hung from the tree. Her body was noted to have demonstrated multiple characteristics associated with death by hanging.

They were only discovered just prior to me making this post, so the investigation is ongoing and I will add more media and background if it becomes available.

Police have indicated that they believe the couple were killed within 2 hours of being discovered.

My sources are shifting. Recent media murmurings indicate that this might be a murder-suicide after all. SPH source has leaked that there was ballistic evidence on the dead girl's hands and they are now checking the nearby river for a shotgun.

Police are not making official statements yet, but it is looking more and more like the young woman shooting him in the face (likely as part of a lover's quarrel) and then hanging herself next to his body in regret.

I have also added 2 new antemortem images of Neli Adriana and 4 additional postmortem images.

The various images of her at this point show that:
1. Her tongue is protruding and bitten.
2. Her nose is dripping blood, typically because the vessels engorge and break as a result of pressure changes and venous return being obstructed by the tight ligature.
3. She lost bladder control and urinated in her pants during asphyxiation

All three of which are extremely common physical aspects of a death by hanging, so that largely corroborates the initial assertion the police made, though still does not clarify whether she killed herself or was hanged by a third party.

I also managed to snag a shoddy screenshot from a muddled video (what is shown in the image here is all that is shown of her body in the vid) that shows the disposition of her feet. The forensic report said she was wearing beige sandals and in all of the previous images, the foliage made it appear as though she were standing in a partial suspension. But the screenshot makes it apparent that her feet are almost completely off the ground, with maybe only the tips of the toes of her sandals touching the soil.

Yeah, I have been in touch with several reporters and one SPH guy, but it's all still really up in the air. They aren't releasing anything, likely because they still haven't figured it out. Chances are good, though, that unless one of the families raises a big stink, they aren't going to dig too deeply.

Initially it was thought to be a gang thing, but tbh that makes little sense to me and I don't think it made sense to them either. No one is even sure what the relationship between the two decedents was, but shooting a guy (who was likely the target if gang related) and then taking the time to rig the whole rope across two trees just to hang a random girl is weird. Plus, if she had been murdered, chances are there would have been some sign of injury on her body aside from the hanging signatures.

The guy is supposedly married and the girl is supposedly engaged. So...many people think that her fiance, along with maybe one or two of his friends and family, baited them to this place after discovering them having an affair and then killed both of them.

That theory makes a little more sense that they'd want to punish the girl with a rough death like slowly hanging her, but she still showed no signs of resistance and there were no other signs of anyone else being present.

There were a few empty beer bottles and half a pack of full ones in the bushes nearby. That leans into my personal theory (and a popular one with the locals) that this was a lover's quarrel, They were hanging out at this spot, having some beers and having a conversation about breaking off their affair, likely because he didn't want to leave his wife. It escalated and she killed him and then hanged herself afterwards in regret.

Only problem is...the cops have not found a shotgun. Now, that is not a huge problem if it got chucked in the river, since they aren't exactly sending Navy divers down to look. But a bigger problem (imho) is where the fuck did she get it? And the rope?

I do think the chick looks well past the borderline of 'crazy', but she would almost have to have planned in advance to kill him if that were the case, to have both the rope and shotgun at hand. That rope arrangement for hanging is not super complex, but is about 100 times more complex than what I see in suicide hangings anywhere else. That all doesn't feel very 'spur of the moment, heat of passion' to me.

I am actually really curious about what really happened and will be following the investigation with interest. Anything I discover will certainly be posted here.

I also wanted to write that it is unlikely that it escalated and then she just happened to have a rope which she planned on hanging herself with..

But anyway, I think it is gang related because if she did it then why hide the shotgun? It should be within a 15M radius I’d imagine

You are seriously over-estimating the amount of effort the local police put into solving a crime like this in Escuintla.

Go watch the videos again. The entire scene is controlled by like two fat firemen, one paramedic who looks about 19, and a couple of over-the-hill cops who are talking on the phone and taking manual notes with paper and a pencil. Ain't nobody getting their feet wet over these two unless someone makes a stink.

I agree that if it was her she likely just chucked the gun into the drink without 'hiding' it, I just don't think these keystone kops are bothering to look even 15m into the water.

It's a very weird setup for gang violence is all. Not impossible by any means, but the MO is extremely weird. Shooting the guy in board shorts in the face and then taking 20 minutes right next to a local work road to tie a rope and pulley between two trees to slow-hang this chick? Way too much work to not even leave a warning narcomensaje explaining why they're dead.

Nah, I am pretty solid on believing its a crime of passion, though not resolved between whether she did the killing and hanged herself or her fiance did it. Or even the dead guy's wife's brother or something. But its way too bizarre for a Guatemalan gang in Escuintla.
