Re: Worker Falls into a Sewage Plant Digester Tank - Case Report
For me, this is the new "Most horrible way to die". They mention her lungs were gone. That's because after holding her breath for as long as she could, she had to take a breath, and inhaled that foul water. It went right to work on her lungs and dissolved them. I hope she lost consciousness very quickly. |

Re: Worker Falls into a Sewage Plant Digester Tank - Case Report
Normally, drowning victims lose consciousness in 1 minute (up to 2 if they are an athlete) of submergence because drowning people hold their breaths, meaning there is a slowly diminishing supply of oxygen in their lungs for a while. However, this worker was most likely pulled into the tank as her bucket was being rapidly drawn through the drain pipe. Since she was also being forced through the piping by the rope and water pressure, breaking her bones and contorting her body along the way, she lost her ability to hold her breath with the first major impact. She would have next inhaled the nasty water, probably felt a burning in the lungs, then blacked within a panicked 5-10 seconds. She would lose consciousness so quickly because her oxygen supply would be cut off as soon as she breathed in the water. So I think she passed out within about 10 seconds of being pulled into the tank, but it would have been a panicked and painful 10 seconds. |

Yes, my dear, I am totally aware of what he was talking about......I assisted him in all levels of his certifications (C, B and A). If you ever see many of my comments, you will realize that I use a high level of sarcasm and dry humor. I was putting a dry, comedic spin on WHY you go down, down, down, the floc hole. If you are aware of processes in the digesters, you will know what floc is.

Re: Worker Falls into a Sewage Plant Digester Tank - Case Report
Simply read the room and try not to be a know it all ass. I think it was abundantly obvious by my choice of wording, aka my quoting his ridiculous wording. I come to DR to laugh at stupidity, as many of us do, not to be schooled. I have a college degree, in the biological sciences and was pre-med (trauma surgery). Thought I would let you know so you don’t have to take the extra effort to read my mind next time.
