Woman Killed by Childhood Friend + Dumped in a Coolbox
On 16th March 2018, 29 year old Khoeun Theany, who had been missing for a week, was found murdered. She had been stripped naked + stuffed into an ice box. On 18th March, officers arrested Khoeun’s childhood friend, 31 year old Soeun Sopheng. He confessed to killing Khoeun to steal money to repay a $2,000 gambling debt he had racked up betting on football games. He told police he had planted exposed electric cables in Khoeun’s bathroom which electrocuted her. He had then repeatedly stabbed her with a meat cleaver. Her dead body was then crammed inside a large padlocked orange cool box, then driven for almost two hours before being dumped at a roadside. Soeun allegedly stole Khoeun’s iPhone 6, jewellery + her motorbike, which he gave to his 25 year old wife, Yuth Sreydy. Yuth has been arrested on suspicion of receiving stolen goods. Police said that Soeun's brother had also been arrested after buying the stolen motorbike knowing it had come from Khoeun. The 3 suspects have been detained in custody while prosecutors piece together the case. Soeun will face life in prison if he is found guilty. Soeun's brother + wife each face up to 1 year in prison. I don't buy it. All that planning and carried out effort just to steal from her? She already fit in the ice box, just lock her in there and take the money. This killing (or motive) makes very little sense to me. |
