Mom was an ICU nurse at a county hospital. If she got in a patient who was a second attempt, she'd pull up a chair and explain how to do it right. Nyckname I like the way your mom thinks. I have worked in the hospitals all my life and what you shared about your mom reminded me of an incident with one of the paramedics I used to work with . My friend Don the paramedic had been working lots of hours over a four day strech . He was tired and stressed like we all were. Well by luck of the draw over the course of this four day strech he had made four seperate runs out to this mans house for suicide attempt calls. Each time he got to the mans house it was the same story the cops were there and when Don examined the patient each time all the guy had was very light scratches cross wise of his wrists. Deffinitly a attention whore and not a true suicide risk. Anyhow Don gets dispatched out to the same site for a 5th time . Same deal as the past four runs just light scratches across the wrist no real damage. Now Don being tired and at this point sick of the patients bullshit. Calmly took out his black shape marker grabed the patients arms and drew vertical lines along the veins of both of the mans forearms. At which points he looked the patient square in he eyes and said NEXT TIME GO WITH THE LINES NOT ACROSS THE LINES. after that we never got called out on another run to that location again.  |
