Woman Jumps to Her Death From the Ponte Rio *****, Manaus, July 2016
On the morning of Friday, July 29, 2016, a woman believed to be about 30 died after deliberately jumping about 20 meters from the Ponte Rio *****, officially the Ponte Jornalista Phelippe Daou, in the west zone of Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil. Fire department responders estimated the height of the fall, while police classified the death as intentional. She had dark hair and was never publicly identified. The bridge crosses the Rio *****, connecting Manaus in the direction of Iranduba. During the year following its opening, it recorded a continuing pattern of similar deaths, with roughly one suicide every four days. |
