Girl Hangs on Newly Built Bridge

Only a matter of hours after the mayor gave his Inauguration speech for the unveiling of this footbridge, this 16 year old girl was found hanging from it by a passerby.

The bridge was built to connect a train station with a nearby bus station and had only been in use for a few hours when the body was found. Police initially investigated as a suicide, but the girls' family protested, insisting that it was murder. She had an ex-boyfriend who had formerly been violent and had recently been making threats on her life. He is currently off the grid and nowhere to be found, of course.

Since the family refuses to accept suicide in about 90% of the hanging cases I find, I usually take such protests with a grain of salt. Denial is a powerful force. Nonetheless, between the boyfriend's history and the photos here, I am more inclined to agree with them than usual.

More than anything, the position of the hands is very peculiar for a suicidal hanging. There are some other factors as well and an autopsy is currently pending.
