I hope not!!!!!!!  I absolutely ABHOR when people want to kill an animal who was only doing what they do. It’s PEOPLE who were wrong in 99.99% of animal involved attacks. |

No sympathy. If you are going to hike where there are bears, know how to deal with them. The one thing you NEVER EVER do is run. As someone else suggested, the vast majority of encounters can be avoided simply by making noise so you don't surprise them. Clap, whistle, jingle keys, etc. When I've hiked in Shanendoah, the rangers also recommend a pocket full of rocks. A couple plunks In the nose will do it for braver black/brown bears. Grizzlies? Don't hike in their territory and don't want to. I'll stick to tame bear country.

At least she didn’t experience being eaten and shredded by a bear. She suffered some fear sure but better to die from a long fall than having a bear over the top of you eating your face off. Thats just me though..  |
