Because you usually have to put a catheter in and set yourself up to a fluid pump because once you start to IV the drugs in you pass out, if your not connected to a fluid pump, you end up waking up.
I'd say there was an element of PTSD due to her job. Unfortunately my career and colleagues have the highest rate of suicides

Thanks for this insight. I have often wondered why she didn't opt for accessible drugs. You explained it very cogently.

Regardless, I would assume that the man was just the catalyst in a mind already plagued by depression and anxiety. I feel like she certainly had practiced those knots before. Plus, the perfect length, etc...it seems like a well-researched hanging, all things considered.

As a card carrying member of the Lunatic Fringe, I so agree. It doesn't seem logical that just the ending of the relationship caused her to suicide.

There was probably a lot of fucked up stuff in her life we don't know about that led to this.
