Re: Very Young Teen Suicide, West Malaysia
I lived in Malaysia briefly and the Indian population really are marginalised. Most of them come from poor backgrounds and are treated poorly by Malays; the social and economic division between Malays, Chinese and Indians are very obvious. Interestingly Chinese-Malay (mixed race from the first wave of Chinese settlers) are usually the richest and most "well bred" (yes a friend I made over there actually used that term) they are also incredibly beautiful and usually marry well to other Malays or Chinese businessmen. Malaysian natives from Borneo are also marginalised a lot of the time, especially as many of them are Christian and not Muslim. On the whole I enjoyed my time there and 90% of everyone I met was lovely and very accepting of foreigners who look different and have different beliefs and views but every country has its gripes and yes you could tell there was a lot of corruption, propaganda and out-dated views based around religion and race... Then again where isn't that the case?!
