Velupillai Prabhakaran, Tamil Tigers Leader, Killed in Sri Lanka, May 2009
Velupillai Prabhakaran, founder and leader of the Tamil Tigers (LTTE), was killed on May 19, 2009 at the Nandikadal lagoon in Mullaitivu district, in the final hours of the Sri Lankan civil war. The army said he died in a firefight as fighters tried to cross the lagoon, and his body was shown on state television that afternoon; the LTTE denied his death for days before acknowledging it on May 24. The circumstances remain disputed: reports attributed to military intelligence sources claimed he was captured and then shot, which the army command denied, and an earlier official account that he died in a rocket strike on a fleeing ambulance was withdrawn. The army cremated his body on May 23 and scattered the ashes at sea. His 24 year old son Charles Anthony was killed a day earlier; photographs leaked in 2013 show his 12 year old son Balachandran alive in army custody and then dead with five gunshot wounds to the chest. |

Re: Velupillai Prabhakaran, Tamil Tigers Leader, Killed in Sri Lanka, May 2009
i wonder if he was shot in his birthday suit, coz in the 1st pic his eyes are almost closed and he's bare chested, but further on he's in uniform with his pants open and eyes open to, as though he's been dressed in his military gear to make it look like he was killed in action, and not in his pit. |
