Umbilical Fetal Strangulation
The umbilical cord, your baby’s source of oxygen and nutrients throughout pregnancy, can become wrapped around a baby’s neck during the pregnancy or at the time of labor and delivery. If the blood supply flowing through the umbilical cord is cut off, serious harm to the baby may occur or even death. Strangulation of the umbilical cord by an amnion band - a rare cause of intrauterine demise: Abrasion of the neck of a baby. These marks were said to have been caused by traction of the neck of the baby by the mother during self-delivery. Similar marks could be caused by umbilical strangulation: |

Almost lost my second son when this happened. I swear my heart stopped till I heard his ticked off cry. I feel for the mothers who lost their children this way.
