Umbilical Fetal Strangulation
The umbilical cord, your baby’s source of oxygen and nutrients throughout pregnancy, can become wrapped around a baby’s neck during the pregnancy or at the time of labor and delivery. If the blood supply flowing through the umbilical cord is cut off, serious harm to the baby may occur or even death.  Strangulation of the umbilical cord by an amnion band - a rare cause of intrauterine demise:   Abrasion of the neck of a baby. These marks were said to have been caused by traction of the neck of the baby by the mother during self-delivery. Similar marks could be caused by umbilical strangulation:    |

One of my kids got his cord around his neck during delivery. It went from beeing calm to a lot of running around in a few secs. Happily he´s fine. But its allways a scary thing... |

This happened to my girl during delivery, and it was scary as HELL until they removed it from around her neck, I couldn't believe how tight the cord actually was, but I felt the pressure of them removing it!!  |

Almost lost my second son when this happened. I swear my heart stopped till I heard his ticked off cry. I feel for the mothers who lost their children this way.

In the one picture, wherein the mother tried to remove the baby herself, I think she strangled him/her. It looks too big to have been made by the umbilical cord. Terrible way to die either way. Cool pictures, but, all very sad. |
