Had to be more than one attacker. The fact that they were bound with strips of their own clothing sounds like the work of at least 2 attackers. Unless the girls were so frightened that they submitted to one lone attacker thinking they'd be allowed to live. I'm thinking the hogtied one was the second to die. Once one is immobilized, the attacker could have his way with the other and then, after killing her, move to kill the hogtied and helpless friend Either way, whoever died second had to hear the final moments of her friend's life.
