Re: Thief Vs Pitbull

How come this things always look so fake?
And I agree, poor dog. Btw, is it something wrong with its ears or are they like, flipped some how`?
No, it's had it's ears clipped. You can get their ears clipped for visual purposes. You're supposed to get them clipped when they are young and A LOT of people do it. I have a male pitbull and his ears are clipped like that. My female still has long, floppy ears though :D

Re: Thief Vs Pitbull

Actually bull dogs were bred with terriers to create a lighter, faster dog for dog fighting. Their ears were cropped so as to not be a target for the other dog to tear up. As for now, yes it's just aesthetics. As far as working and hunting dogs go. I can't think of a single breed that their ears are/were cropped for hygiene, preventing diseases, or to stave infection. In fact having them cropped would create problems for the dog. Allowing dirt and debris to get into the ear canal much more easily. Am I wrong???
I don't profess to be a dog historian, but I believe the logic of your point is correct.

The long ears of the hounds (bloodhounds esp) help keep the scent going towards the dog's nose when tracking.

If my dog damaged a thief that badly, he'd live on porterhouse steaks the rest of his life.

Re: Thief Vs Pitbull

I have a pit and she is better than the best alarm system, she is kind, loyal and is a part of our family. We got her not to look "cool" but because she was being terribly abused and we saved her life, now she is helping us. I feel lucky to have her and trust her completely, I hate that they get such a bad wrap because of incompetent owners.
