Re: Thailand - Man Died After Crashing His Motorbike
Same image, different principle. These people here are all volunteers, as the other poster said. In Thailand, they operate two-tier emergency services. The first responders are almost always volunteer teams for accidents and injuries; they will go out, assess a situation, and radio back for the paramedics if emergency lifesaving care is needed. About 2/3 of the time, the volunteers handle the situation, either by collecting remains or assisting the patient. They are actually colloquially known as "bodysnatchers". I will differ with the other poster in saying that I don't think it's necessarily taboo to work with the dead. But they do pose with corpses out of pride, as most believe assisting the dead, given that it's self-sacrificing and often gruesome work for which the favor will never be returned - is very valuable in terms of karmic merit. I don't see a thing wrong with it, personally. Just people taking pride in performing their civic duty. |
