She was truly beautiful- looks like she was well-loved.

Re: Thai Tourist Stung by Jellyfish

What happens is that after the toxin in injected into the skin it causes cells to leak potassium. The potassium level in the blood becomes extremely high and causes the heart to fail.
So I guess that is why just a small sting, or a small area is survivable? She had more area covered than I've ever seen; plus she seemed a small gal.

That sounds like a slow and painful death. How long would it have taken?

Death can be due to panic and then drowning. Or due to anaphylactic shock as the venom consist of foreign proteins which the immune system over reacts

2 - 5 minutes. It's not rare that swimmers who get stung will undergo cardiac arrest or drown before they can even get back to the shore or boat, although "rare" is a right word to say for the attacks as well, there are about 63 known deaths due to the sting of that bastard in Australia from 1884 to 1996.

Re: Thai Tourist Stung by Jellyfish

I'd been stung by a jelly donut on occasion... coffee helps wash the sting away!

Aren't potassium injections used to execute people in the United States, and very excruciating? The person being executed is injected with heavy sedatives and everything goes directly into the blood stream in an execution though, unlike a jellyfish sting.

Re: Thai Tourist Stung by Jellyfish

This is why people shouldn't do night swimming, what's the point of night swimming, living in the moment? What's the point of that if it's dangerous and potentially deadly. Non-westerns get these ideas from us, just because they see us doing crap like this on T.V. they think this is the way to live life on the edge. There's no point for night Swimming, Sharks and other Sea life are more active at night and it's easier to drown or get swept into the sea at night. Dumb bitch, I don't feel sorry for her.

Re: Thai Tourist Stung by Jellyfish

It appears as if the jellyfish was trying to give her a hug.
