Re: Thai Teen Announces Suicide on Facebook Then Hangs
Not meaning to paste a novel but it's worth reading if anyone here is actually interested in neuroscience studies... Many children younger than 5 years in developing countries are exposed to multiple risks, including poverty, malnutrition, poor health, and unstimulating home environments, which detrimentally affect their cognitive, motor, and social-emotional development. There are few national statistics on the development of young children in developing countries. We therefore identified two factors with available worldwide data—the prevalence of early childhood stunting and the number of people living in absolute poverty—to use as indicators of poor development. We show that both indicators are closely associated with poor cognitive and educational performance in children and use them to estimate that over 200 million children under 5 years are not fulfilling their developmental potential. Most of these children live in south Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. These disadvantaged children are likely to do poorly in school and subsequently have low incomes, high fertility, and provide poor care for their children, thus contributing to the intergenerational transmission of poverty. https://www.sciencedirect.com/scienc...40673607600324 A previous series focused attention on the more than 6 million preventable child deaths every year in developing countries. |

Re: Thai Teen Announces Suicide on Facebook Then Hangs
I appreciate the additions, thanks! This thread is about 9 months old, but gets bumped periodically and there's no better reason to see it bumped than to add new and interesting information that pertains to the circumstances. This whole case was actually quite a coup for me, so I never mind seeing it bumped. :P Thailand notoriously censors about 95% of their suicide imagery, especially with female decedents. I got several of these images directly from someone who was present when they cut her down and, to the best of my knowledge, they've never been published anywhere but here. Took me about 14 goddam hours of searching and negotiating and maneuvering to find them and then get the girl to turn them over. Thanks again for the interesting articles about the brain. |

Ah fml, I didn't even check the dates on this one. I won't be expecting a debate anytime soon. Anyway, I'll always be unable to accept the 'cultural defense' in how thinking and perceiving physical sexual maturity stacks up against actual emotional maturity and readiness. Especially regarding underdeveloped teens having consensual sex with adults, as they lack the insight for forseeable consequence to even make an informed decision. |

You know what, I'm actually glad that they censor more. It's what separate the civilised world from shitholes like India, Cambodia, or Mexico. Anyways, there are some more photos in her facebook profile. |
