Same thing happened to two sisters here. One side of hammock was attached to a brick column and it fell on them.

such a big, thick and heavy beam with with only 1 short rebar holding it? It's like a wheel with 4 screws but only 1 with the nut.

Even Western building codes don't call for rebar in a wooden beam in a residential building. I'm sure there are code issues all over the place in this structure but that isn't one of them.
