Somewhat surprised by the sneakers and socks. I've observed that the majority of teenage female suicides choose to die in their bare feet. I often wonder if they do it as a symbol of the tragic loss of innocence evidenced by their dead bodies.

Not necessary. Just look to Darwin. It's called survival of the fittest, with the obvious corollary, non survival of the unfit. Those who can't handle such common life experiences as rejection, being picked on, bullied, etc. are typically not folks who will advance the gene pool if they live long enough to propagate. Thus from a Darwinian perspective, such suicides are good for the species, not things to moan and groan about.

But the fact is that hanging is the preferred method of so many depressed youths because it is 'easy', imminently available, and widely romanticized to be a clean, painless death.

Of course, you only have to look at one of hundreds of hanging photos on this site alone to know that suicidal hanging is almost never clean or (judging by many expressions) painless.

I have to assume, given a depressed, self-conscious teenage girl's reliance on image and appearance, that many of them might choose a different fate if they realized that they'd be painfully gasping for air and pissing or shitting their pants while they choke. And knowing that one of their parents/siblings/friends/ were going to find them in that state.

I guess I'm just surprised, having seen literally hundreds (maybe thousands by now) of suicidal hanging photos, that more of them aren't concerned about what state their body is found in.
For a teenage girl who is about to take her own life because she feels unaccepted or bullied, I just remain amazed that they go through with it, knowing they'll be found with an embarrassing mess in their pants.

Two things:

1. for the vast majority of hanging pics I've seen, I'm impressed by the peace and serenity of their expressions. Unless they have somehow screwed up the hanging, consciousness is usually lost in seconds.

2. As a suicidal teen at one time, I can say that the condition of my body was not the last thing on my mind, but just didn't care. I was brought into this world kicking and screaming, and when I've left, they can do what they want with the remains.

Only a few reasons why at 13 you would hang yourself:
1.She thought she might be pregnant
2.She was being bullied
3.She was being sexually abused.

I hate to see someone so young die but I will stop short of sympathy for such a selfish act. Her pain may be gone but the pain of her mother and sister will last a lifetime.

I always question a comment like this. It is sad for her family that they have lost her but should she have survived and in so much pain so that they could still have her around. It's selfish for the family to expect her to live with her pain just for their benefit. What I'm trying to say is that when someone decides to take their own life they must be in so much pain and just can't take it another minute. It is an individual's right to choose death if they are in that much pain and want to be free. It's sad to lose a loved one but if you know they are now free of their burdens and pain it should give you some solace to know they are now resting in peace.

Nobody knows anything of the sort. Everyone is entitled to their religious beliefs, of course (and irreligious beliefs), but belief must not be confused with knowledge. As far as you (or I or anybody) knows she may be (1) resting in peace, (2) rotting or burning in Hell, (3) not existing at all. One can think up more alternatives if desired.

When her mom and sister went out, she sought to end the pain the only way she knew how.

She wrapped the rope over the bars, and tied it around her neck. She was crying softly. She put her hands over her eyes and let herself slip off the ladder, and the rope snugged itself around her neck. She struggled under her weight, and her arms and legs contracted as her body responded to the choking. She let her urethra relax so the urine flowed into her pants. The warm liquid trickling down her legs was the last thing she felt as she passed out. Her body twitching every few seconds, as she fell into death.
