They know how dangerous it is. The risk is the biggest draw. Life without risking death is empty. It is in our DNA, especially for boys. We need to create risks, like base jumping and all extreme sports. Those are pointless without death as a possible outcome. For this boy there was the risk and a possible payoff of money needed for survival. Much like our ancestors hunting dangerous animals. The rush is addicting.
