Google used to be more than adequate. These days, the algorithms used in the searches and reverse image searches, etc are a lot harder to work with. Once upon a time you could do date-based searches for foreign language words and they would populate with accuracy. Nowadays, date-based image searches are all but useless, often resulting in images that are 5+ years old despite the parameters. You can still get a good hit or a lead from Google, but finding 'the goods' there is rare.

Social media is FAR more reliable, but also more time consuming and less precise. 80% of my posts these days come from Facebook. But that can takes hours of scrolling through bullshit, as often times the good photos are not located in the news stories themselves, but buried in hundreds of comment posts below the stories.

Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram all bring up some good hits if you have patience and know what keywords to use.

My typical method these days, when doing a cold search is to start with Google and then expand. Google searches rarely yield good photos, but often yield good data. Take that data (dates, names, locations, etc) to Facebook and start running meticulous date-based searches there. Find stories with censored photos. Start scrolling through comments on those stories to find uncensored photos. Sometimes additional steps are required. Clicking on the NAMES of the commenters and going to their FB pages to see what they have posted or who shared the images with them, then going to THAT person's page for more images, etc.

Most Brazilians and Mexicans use Whatsapp for disseminating gore/death photos these days. News bloggers will post censored images on FB, but uncensored images on their Whatsapp. But that requires a lot of bullshit with your phone that I am too old and cranky to fuck with. I have a friend who is active in a lot of WA groups and she sends me shit when she can. But if you want to seriously start sourcing good gore and you have the patience for it, what you need to do is get the Whatsapp group numbers from news bloggers on Facebook and Twitter and download the photos there. It's a fucking gold mine for the patient and attentive.

Ten years ago, I had half a dozen contacts in the Rojas pages in Mexico. Guys I could email or call on the phone to send me the most current and gory shit that they personally took photos of. Those days are done now, unfortunately. The best of them died and the rest moved on to other jobs.

You'll want to make liberal use of Google Translate, as well, unless you're fluent in an awful lot of languages, heh. Figure out some common keywords to search for to turn up results. Find and memorize or notate the Thai, Khmer, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian (the most common language-centers that still post gore images) for words like:
murder, homicide, suicide, accident, fatality, wreck, shooting, stabbing, strangle, hanging, execution, beating, drowning, asphyxiation, massacre, and any other depravity you can think of.

It's work, don't get me wrong. But if you like investigation and have the patience and time, you can find some really great shit for the site.
