GoreGirl89 My experience would indicate that it is only particularly common in sudden, violent deaths. And judging by the sheer averages, I would assume that the bulk of the cadavers you encounter professionally are not murder victims or suicidal hangings. Car accidents probably represent the majority of your 'traumatic' deaths and, consequently, likely represent the most frequent encounter instance wherein you have to deal with this process (bowel/bladder void)? Just guessing. But I have archived thousands of postmortem examination reports over the years and it's a fairly educated guess based on the typical contents of those reports. :) Suicidal hangers and accidental/homicidal asphyxiations urinate and defecate the most (around 85%). Then other types of sudden violence including gunshots, beatings, exsanguination, blunt force trauma, etc (around 40-50%). 'Natural causes' such as illness or age-related death reports it in only about 5-10% of the cases I have studied. |
