Strangulation Nail Abrasions

Here are two classic cases of manual strangulation. In the first picture, one can notice three crescent nail abrasions on the left side of the neck (it was suggested that the collar of the T shirt and the coat intevened between the assailant hand and the neck) and another abrasion on the upper middle neck. This distribution pattern denotes that the assailent used his right hand.
In the second picture, one can notice 4 crescent nail abraions on the right side of the neck and one abrasion on the left side. This pattern of distribution indicates that the assailent used his left hand to do the job.
In both pictures, abrsions caused by the thumb is less clear than those caused by the rest of fingers and it is usually having a wider area,this can be attributed to partial displacement of the thumb during squeezing the neck.

When I was stationed in okinawa, we had a gunny that went out on the town, and got shitfaced. Was walking back on base, stumbled on a curb, caught himself on a telephone pole.... but not enough, cuz his temple was pierced by a nail that was sticking out of it.

He died instantly
