Re: Standing Outside The Fire

There are even worse things...the full comprehension of sin, and its immediate punishment, that NEVER ends: Gehenna, the Lake of Fire, Hell itself!
Also, being run over by unicorns, having to lick the nuts on a troll, being farted on by a leprechaun, and many similar fates, just as real as what you are mentioning............

Re: Standing Outside The Fire

It would be almost impossible to survive in this case. But as long as patients come alive to ER they do everything in their power to save them.

Re: Standing Outside The Fire

If his lungs aren’t too damaged, he has a real chance in a good burn unit. Could be my impression of prognoses is spoiled by living close to one of the best such units. Shrug.

Lung damage is the primary prognostic factor here, iirc. There’s just not enough lungs for transplant to justify trying long term ECMO while waiting for one to become available, and you’re obviously not going to survive without at least one.

Only escharotomy I’ve seen featured smaller pieces and shallower cuts (initially), but that was a different burn, so would be interesting to know if there’s some reason they’re breaking the skin into larger pieces here. Also, aren’t they supposed to cover with gels and tegaderm-like films right away, to limit the infections until the next phase?

The body is a fascinating machine.
