A burglar was apprehended by police after ransacking what appeared to be an abandoned property, with large trees and vines covering the iron gate, as well as branches and weeds growing densely along the pathway leading to the property.

When police arrived at the property, they found a Toyota vehicle which had been partially dismantled, and a house window which had been forced open. The downstairs hall had been ransacked, with belongings scattered everywhere.

However, police also found the remains of a human skeleton, with pieces of the skull scattered separately from the other bones. The bones were collected and gathered outside. The skeleton was that of a former government schoolteacher, Ms. Phairin C., thought to be around 70 when she died.

A mechanic who lived nearby said he had frequently rode his motorcycle past the property for the past three to four years, and that it always looked abandoned.

Meanwhile, a 92-year-old neighbour, Chong A., said Phairin normally lived alone. Chong said she hadn't seen Phairin for over a decade, also noting that, due to a dead-end lane, Phairin would have had to have driven in front of Chong's house anytime she drove in or out of her property.

Chong claimed she never noticed any unusual smells or anything suspicious, and that she thought Phairin moved to another province to live with her children and grandchildren.
