Re: Several Different Dead Chinese Women

I hope it's new.

A young chinese worker started to bleed to death from mouth/nose after having worked 16 consecutive hours... Experts here can maybe explain why she started to bleed so much, seems weird...

Here is the full story translated:

Recently, a netizen named "袁满gg" posted a Weibo post titled "Overwork at a Tianjin electronics factory leads to the death of a female college student in her 20s," claiming that his younger sister, Yuan Man, a junior majoring in business administration at Hebei University, worked part-time at Tianjin Guangming Semiconductor Company. She worked 15 consecutive hours and ultimately died from exhaustion. However, Tianjin Guangming Semiconductor Company has been delaying payment of workers' compensation, preventing his sister from being properly buried. This incident has garnered attention after being reported by Tianjin Daily's new media platform, "News 117."

An investigation by reporters revealed that Yuan Man entered the workshop of Guangming Semiconductor (Tianjin) Co., Ltd. through an intermediary agency. The company currently only hires temporary workers, and all hires must be placed through an agency. Yuan Man's coworkers told reporters that on the day of his death, it was a shift change, requiring a continuous 16-hour workday between night and day shifts. Due to local customs in Yuan Man's hometown, no autopsy was performed, and the cause of death is still unclear. Currently, Yuan Man's family has reached a preliminary agreement with the factory regarding compensation.

Photos of Yuan Man before his death, posted by relatives and friends.

He died after working continuously for 15 hours and vomiting blood.

According to Yuan Man's sister, her younger sister Yuan Man is from Baoding, Hebei Province. She is 22 years old and a third-year student majoring in business administration at Hebei University. Due to health reasons, her father is unable to do heavy physical labor. During the winter vacation this year, Yuan Man worked part-time at Tianjin Guangming Semiconductor Company to supplement the family income.

Public information shows that Yuan Man's employer, Guangming Semiconductor (Tianjin) Co., Ltd., is a wholly South Korean-owned company. Its investor is Seoul Semiconductor, a company with nearly 20 years of history, which is South Korea's largest LED manufacturer and currently the world's sixth-largest. The Tianjin branch was established on August 1, 2001, with an investment of US$19 million.

Yuan Man's sister said that the video she saw at the police showed that around midnight on January 30, her sister Yuan Man had been working for 15 hours straight. It was dinner time. After Yuan Man came out of the cleanroom, she changed her clothes, did some simple makeup, and then suddenly covered her mouth and ran to the restroom. Then she was seen lying next to the toilet, vomiting blood. In just two or three minutes, a pool of blood had accumulated in front of her.

When some people in the corridor saw this, some called 120 for emergency medical assistance, while others went to look for security guards. However, by the time the ambulance arrived, Yuan Man had already passed away.

"When the family heard the news, they couldn't believe it was true. They rushed to the Jinan District Public Security Bureau in Tianjin, but Yuan Man was really gone. The family is devastated!" Yuan Man's sister said. The family wanted to receive workers' compensation so that their sister could be laid to rest, but Guangming Semiconductor Company kept delaying, resulting in Yuan Man's body still being kept at the Jinan District Public Security Bureau in Tianjin. Left with no other option, the family sought help through Weibo, hoping that with the help of netizens, their sister's case could be resolved as soon as possible.

Yuan Man's sister also posted photos of Yuan Man on Weibo. Reporters observed that Yuan Man had a sweet appearance and a sunny smile.

Shortly after the incident, alumni of the School of Business Administration at Hebei University, where Yuan Man studied, began discussing the matter on WeChat Moments and QQ Space. A student surnamed Zhang, a 2013 graduate of Hebei University, confirmed to reporters that Yuan Man was indeed a student at the university, from Baoding, Hebei Province, and was studying Business Administration in the 2014 cohort. Zhang stated that shortly after Yuan Man's passing, the class group chat exploded with discussion and expressions of deep regret for her loss.

According to another classmate of Yuan Man, Yuan Man was a very hard-working student. She always sat in the front row and listened attentively in class. She was also very kind and generous to her classmates and was a very positive person.

"We hadn't been in touch for a long time after high school, and I never imagined we'd never be able to contact each other again. May she rest in peace, and may she find peace in heaven." Ms. Yuan, also from Baoding, was Yuan Man's childhood friend. She recalled to the reporter that she and Yuan Man went to kindergarten together, attended the same elementary school broadcasting station, and Yuan Man once borrowed a book from her house. A few years ago, she had even discussed with her mother, "The name Yuan Man is very beautiful; Yuan Man means completeness."

On February 10, reporters confirmed with the Shuangqiao Police Station of the Jinan Branch of the Tianjin Municipal Public Security Bureau that a female college student named Yuan Man did indeed die on January 30 while working at Guangming Semiconductor Company. The police did not disclose further details.

Reporters learned that Yuan Man's family hopes for a proper burial and has consistently refused an autopsy. Therefore, the cause of Yuan Man's death remains undetermined.

Yuan Man died during the shift change.

"Working non-stop for 15 hours straight, my head hurts." Before his death, Yuan Man posted the aforementioned Weibo post on WeChat Moments.

Why would someone work 15 consecutive hours? On February 10th, a reporter called Guangming Semiconductor Company. A staff member claimed to have only been there a day and was unaware of the situation. When the reporter requested to be transferred to the relevant person in charge, the staff member said they didn't know them and hung up. Several hours later, the reporter tried again, but the staff member's story remained unchanged.

"So many workers in our company are fine, it's probably due to Yuan Man's own health issues." The reporter contacted Guangming Semiconductor's recruiter through the contact information published on Zhaopin.com, posing as a job applicant. The recruiter said that he had also heard about Yuan Man's death. He explained that Guangming Semiconductor operates on a two-shift system, each shift lasting 12 hours, with a two-hour break for meals, so there was no issue of overwork.

The reporter eventually found one of Yuan Man's coworkers, who said that at Guangming Semiconductor Company, the usual working hours are indeed 10 hours, and it's not usually that tiring. However, every now and then, there is a "long shift" rotation. When switching from the night shift to the day shift, they need to work from 8 pm to noon the next day. Then they go home to rest until 8 am the next morning before going back to work at the factory.

"Poor child, may there be no more disasters in heaven... Your wardrobe is still the same, but I can no longer see your face." A Weibo user named "MeiGuniang0417" posted a picture of Yuan Man's wardrobe on Weibo. A reporter contacted "MeiGuniang," who said she and Yuan Man were among the first batch of employees to join the factory. The day Yuan Man died happened to be her shift change day. She said the work at the company was very hard during the shift changes, and she found it unbearable.

Yuan Man's family had sought answers at the gate of the factory where the incident occurred.

Hu Xikun, secretary of the Youth League Committee of the School of Business Administration at Hebei University, told reporters that the school contacted the family after learning of the incident to verify the authenticity of the online information. The incident is still under investigation, and Hu Xikun stated that he was unaware of the outcome of the negotiations between the family and the company involved.

Yuan Man's sister stated that initially, Guangming Semiconductor Company was unwilling to negotiate, instead directing the family to negotiate with intermediaries. Currently, both parties have reached a preliminary agreement. Therefore, they do not wish for further media involvement.

The company only hires temporary female workers.

According to several classmates, Yuan Man was very sensible and often worked part-time during her university years to ease the burden on her family.

In 2015, Wang Wen (pseudonym), a student at the Central Judicial Police Academy, worked with Yuan Man at Baoding Park for a week. After that, the two would also go out for part-time jobs together. In Wang Wen's memory, Yuan Man was very easy-going and frugal.

Photos of Yuan Man before his death, posted by relatives and friends.

According to Yuan Man's sister, Yuan Man entered Guangming Semiconductor Company through an intermediary. The intermediary claimed that Guangming Semiconductor Company offered good benefits, which is why Yuan Man chose this company.

The aforementioned recruiter from Guangming Semiconductor Company stated that the company currently does not need male workers, only female operators, and these female workers are only temporary positions, all recruited through employment agencies. Therefore, if the reporter wants to become a temporary worker for the company, they must contact an agency.

The reporter attempted to contact the agency that helped Guangming Semiconductor recruit, but the call was immediately disconnected.

An anonymous college student claimed that he had also worked part-time at the company through an agency this year, and that he not only experienced great psychological pressure but also often felt physically exhausted while working.

"A medical examination is required before starting work, but the shady agency only charges you 50 yuan for the examination, and then they pay the bill." This statement addresses online questions about whether Yuan Man underwent a medical examination before starting work. "In fact, before joining the company, they only check if you have a medical examination report; they don't conduct any further medical examinations," she claims.

Electronics factories are keen to recruit college students for part-time jobs.

The aforementioned male student stated that recruitment advertisements from major electronics factories in Tianjin are frequently seen on the Hebei University campus before holidays. A search of the Hebei University Baidu Tieba forum revealed that students have been inquiring over the years about the reliability of working in Tianjin electronics factories.

Reporters found that advertisements recruiting college students as temporary workers for electronics factories during holidays appeared on many university online forums. A court employee in Anshun City, Guizhou Province, who previously studied at a university in Jiangsu, went to work at an electronics factory in Suzhou in 2014 through an agency during the 2011 winter break. According to him, working in the electronics factory was very hard, with working 12-hour shifts.

It's worth noting that many vocational schools also collaborate with electronics factories, arranging for students to work in these factories under the guise of internships. In 2012, a non-governmental organization focusing on the new generation of migrant workers released the "2011-2012 Survey Report on Student Workers in the Electronics Industry." The report revealed that many vocational schools and electronics factories in China were colluding to exploit students, placing those who should have been completing their studies in harsh working and living conditions, and some of these student workers were even minors.

According to media reports, during this year's Spring Festival, a school in Yunnan arranged for more than 200 students to intern at an electronics factory in Fujian. Their work involved tasks such as tightening screws, attaching labels, covering display screens, and moving equipment on an assembly line. They worked 12-hour days, including rotating overnight shifts. The internship contracts provided by the students show that the internship ran from January to April, including the 2017 Spring Festival holiday.

On April 11, 2016, five departments, including the Ministry of Education, jointly issued the "Regulations on the Management of Student Internships in Vocational Schools," which explicitly prohibits students from working night shifts or overtime during internships.

A foreman in a production workshop at an electronics factory in Wuxi told reporters that the cost of full-time employees is high, as the company needs to cover social security and other expenses. In the context of an economic downturn, factories prefer to hire temporary workers, and young, healthy college graduates, who can start working after simple training, are highly sought after by electronics factories.
