Sergio Mazza, Shangri-La Hotel Executive, Shot Dead in Makati, June 2010
Sergio Mazza, a 38 year old German national and food and beverage executive at the Makati Shangri-La hotel, was shot three times in the head at close range by a lone gunman at about 7am on June 17, 2010, at the corner of Dela Rosa and Perea Streets in Legaspi Village, Makati City, Philippines, while walking from his apartment to work. His wallet, phone and watch were untouched, so police ruled out robbery and pursued a personal angle, questioning several women he had been seeing; early reports called him Italian before police corrected his nationality. A task force took a dozen statements and released composite sketches, and his family raised the reward to 2 million pesos in 2011, but a key informant disappeared and no arrest was ever reported. |
