Russia - Man's Head Destroyed in New Year's Day Firework Mishap
On 1st January 2022 in Fedorovskoe (Russia), a 37 year old man died. The man, a police colonel, was visiting relatives for the new year. At around 10 minutes into the new year, he set off some fireworks. Unfortunately for him, they misfired + went sideways. The man was hit in the head, destroying it + killing him instantly.

Was this a firework? or Military ordnance? It looks like military ordnance to me, with the green metallic finish on the tube. Fireworks usually have silly pictures on them, not an industrial finish. The box may not have any connection to the shell, just being a box he put some of them in to carry. Maybe some of our Russian members can translate the box? But anyway, he did a good job! |

The tube looks to be made of some phenolic resin. Definitely not a typical consumer-grade recreational firework. Good thing it took his head off. He won’t pollute the gene pool anymore.

I wasn't sure what the accompanying text meant, that came with the images, so went with 'fireworks' as it says that on the box. Here's the translation, you may have a better understanding of what they're meaning:

Sorry, I have no skills at all when it comes to Russian or Cyrillic writing. I was hoping one of our Russian speaking readers could translate the label on the tube. We can see what happens. As "RIDE" points out, normally fireworks are just in a cardboard tube. The kind of tube it was in looks like military-style packaging. The government always overdoes even the simplest item. But maybe it was a professional grade firework like they use in large city displays? |
