Re: Romeo and Juliet: Bloater Edition

really sad. the girl's fucked up eyes, that's haunting. but I guess what's most haunting is the depth of despair that these two must've reached in order to do this. how fucking pointless. honor, proper marriage, blablabla, another societal constraint that makes living in those primitive countries so difficult.

Family, commitment, responsibility, relationships, etc mean very different things across the world.

Re: Romeo and Juliet: Bloater Edition

You don't get it because you're lacking cultural perspective. I don't mean that in an insulting fashion, but it is important to keep a sense of broader scope when considering these issues. Family, commitment, responsibility, relationships, etc mean very different things across the world. Looking at every circumstance from a (comparatively) wealthy, privileged, Western background will blind you to base differences.

Not every culture group views things like individuality and personal choice and self-indulgence the same way that Americans, Canadians, and (most) Europeans do. For some people death is preferable to living in scorn and alienation from your family unit.
Irregardless of the reasons that people act on such principles, One can still recognize them and yet still find it sad how some are bound by traditional authoritarian structures enough to feel the need take their own lives. What they did was a symptom of the imposed family hierarchy that is in a lot of ways part of the conditioning to produce a servant culture

Re: Romeo and Juliet: Bloater Edition

Quite apart from whether or not our star cross'd lovers should have eloped, what is clear is thosewho hang themselves really should research it first. I can't think of a less satisfying way to die with one's beloved than jerking against one another in a bizarre double hanging. What about when preservation kicks in and she tries to free herself? Your last thought is 'she didn't love me enough'. If you really must, off a tall building or on the grip on arsenic seems more fitting.

But perhaps it had some symbolism for them, I really can't say. However, a double hanging seems an absolutely awful way to go.
