You don't get it because you're lacking cultural perspective. I don't mean that in an insulting fashion, but it is important to keep a sense of broader scope when considering these issues. Family, commitment, responsibility, relationships, etc mean very different things across the world. Looking at every circumstance from a (comparatively) wealthy, privileged, Western background will blind you to base differences.

Not every culture group views things like individuality and personal choice and self-indulgence the same way that Americans, Canadians, and (most) Europeans do. For some people death is preferable to living in scorn and alienation from your family unit.
You could not be more correct Ved... Many people, even here in DR family have the impression that everything else happens in their own backyard. They dont even look wider. Before making idiotic comments about race and cultures tey know nothing about, they should first do some research about the particular area and how they live their lives. Particularly about mating and marriage, or about financial debt or a smudge in one's honor.
