Re: Rolex Store Robbery

Thanks for the advice Kik as I would never know the difference. So I guess these guys weren't that dumb after all? Still the robbers lost their lives over fake watches.
You're most welcome.

Fake watches or not they were not to know and would most likely have lost their lives anyway as their fence would not have known they were fakes either.

I am sure once the fence got word of being sold fakes he would have ended the would be thieves.

The biggest issue by far is the Chinese, they have become so good at forging that even Apple could not tell the fake from their own product.

The fake ipad uses the exact same chips and PCB's as Apple, supplied from the same distributors, the cheap version and the Apple are in fact identical, if something is not done soon about the Chinese we are all doomed.

I have made mention in past posts that I fly model aircraft, I bought a brand new Spektrum DX6i TX with 4 servo's and two RX's both were AR-7000's Spektrum's top of the line RX's, I also bought a brand new OS.46, these items were for a brand new model I had just finished a Boomerang high wing aerobatics trainer, turns out the TX (transmitter) was a Chinese fake and I lost the model on its maiden flight. It ruined the engine, the RX (which was probably fake also) and smashed two servos.

I threw the Spektrum in my incinerator and bought a Hitec Eclipse 7 U.S made and converted to 2.4ghz, have not had an issue since, my Extra 300 3D model I can now fly with total confidence thanks to U.S reliability.... I also drive U.S made vehicles :).

Re: Rolex Store Robbery

Being a Horologist I can tell you that many many people wear imitation Rolex's Tag's Omega's Tudors etc, we have them brought in on a daily basis, the Chinese are getting so good at copying that only the most astute eye can pick the fake.

With Omega we had one in a couple of weeks ago, this guy had paid $6500 for it, as it turns out it was a copy and as a stroke of luck we had a genuine one in for repair identical in every way except for the two rivet marks on the dial that pin the dial to the movement, we had spotted that already, we opened the case and even the movement was an ETA, Omega supply some of their movements from ETA in Switzerland, the caliber was different, but nonetheless it was a genuine ETA movement.

The copy was worth $50.00

The case was a drop dead copy that not even dad or I could pick, they were the exact same weight and looked identical only the eye glass picked up the riveted dial, had it been an old watch we would have assumed it had been very well re-pinned something that is common even in high end watches.

Be careful what you buy, the ipad was released two weeks before the genuine Apple item....true story.
Thanks for that enlightening snippet of information. I'll bear that in mind when I buy my next diamond encrusted Cartier.

Timex is good enough for me....
Not much danger of buying a fake Timex. (and you never
have to worry about buying a stolen Timex)
