Death Picture of Escaped Convict Richard Matt From Clinton Correctional
Richard Matt, one of two prisoners who executed a dramatic escape from Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, New York, in June 2015, became the subject of a massive manhunt that captured national attention. Matt, along with fellow inmate David Sweat, managed to break out of the maximum-security prison in an escape that seemed akin to a plot from a Hollywood movie. Matt, who was serving a 25-years-to-life sentence for kidnapping, dismembering, and killing his former boss in 1997, orchestrated the escape with Sweat, who was serving a life sentence without parole for the murder of a Broome County sheriff's deputy. Their escape plan involved using power tools to cut through cell walls and pipes, leading them outside the prison walls. The escape led to a three-week-long manhunt involving hundreds of law enforcement officers across several states. The manhunt, which cost millions of dollars, put local communities on high alert and received widespread media coverage. Richard Matt was eventually located on June 26, 2015, in the vicinity of Malone, New York. He was shot and killed by a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer after he failed to comply with law enforcement and was deemed a threat. This was kind of a big deal in NY, 2 convicts in NY escaped prison much like the plot of the Shawshank Redemption.Matt was shot and killed by NY state police, while the other convict was shot and captured. IMO, although I'm not keen on "Shoot first, ask question later," both of them were convicted murderers; it's just as well to eliminate them rather than put a needle in them.
