Re: Please Inform Security of Any Unattended Luggage
Heh, it was actually somewhat contentious in several of the local social networking groups that were discussing the case. The various media outlets and my shitty language skills and translation services wound up offering like 9 different suggestions or variations for the phrase. The most common translation read it as 'stinking smell.' Also 'bad odor', 'fetid smell', 'bathroom odor', 'evil smell', 'dirty stink' and multiple variations on the theme. There were a lot of discussions as to what exactly the witness meant and what the media meant when they reported it. The girl had been dead only a handful of hours when she was found inside the suitcase. So clearly it wasn't the usual 'rotting' decomp smell. Likely not even gas or purge at that point, she was still so fresh. But the witness clearly said that the smell from the bag made him worry that 'something bad was inside.' The only injury to her body was a single gunshot to the head, so she didn't have a bowel perforation or spill a bunch of intestines into the bag. Though there was a fair amount of blood on her head and shirt. Several hours later, though, one reporter leaked the morgue photo of her clothing laid out for evidence photography. Initial versions did a lot of censoring, but when uncensored versions finally broke, it was very obvious that her underpants and jeans were visibly soiled, so the consensus was that that was what he was likely smelling to make him nervous. Someone in the thread did posit the theory that the Cartel had re-used a previous body dump bag that still smelled from the last rotting corpse they moved, but that really didn't hold much water for anyone. |
